Situated close to the famous Bangor on Dee Racecourse, The Hanmer Arms is a delightful old country hotel, which offers a traditionally warm welcome and is also dog friendly and child friendly. It occupies a rural position in the village of Hanmer where Lorna Sage, Whitbread Booker Prize Winning Author also resided, during her childhood years in the Fifties and Sixties, and about which she wrote her famous rather controversial book "Bad Blood".
Hanmer Village is such a pretty idyll - a place where time has stood still with quaint thatched cottages, a beautiful Mere owned by the Hanmer family (whose ancestry goes back to the famous Owain Glyndwr marrying Margaret Hanmer) who remain living in the village which has a thriving farming community, together with a local 'family owned' Butcher, Post Office and Stores, Village School, St Chad's Church and of course, The Hanmer Arms Hotel.
Golfing Breaks
The Hanmer Arms is an ideal venue for those wanting a Golfing Break with a great choice of local Golf Clubs such as Oswestry, Llangollen, Chirk, Hawkstone Park, and Hill Valley at Whitchurch. Please enquire for further details.
"Why not challenge our local Hanmer Bowling Club Team to a match"
The Bowling Green attached to The Hanmer Arms is a perfect setting to enjoy a group event with friends. It is available to hire for individuals and/or groups. Booking is essential and the cost is £25 to use the Green irrespective of numbers. Why not enjoy an overnight stay, lunch or evening meal and combine an afternoon or early evening game of bowls?
The Bowling Green is perfect for either a small group or bring all your Bowling Club Members along... the cost is the same and is a wonderful way to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Hanmer village.

Adding to the overall environment of the Hanmer Arms are the neighbouring St. Chad's Church, Hanmer Mere and two National Trust properties: the 700 year old Chirk Castle and Erddig Hall where 18th century life seems, still to be encapsulated in a 'time warp.'
Romance is certainly in the air here and wedding memories in abundance are created at the Hanmer Arms, as are those of romantic weekends, rewarding short breaks or, even, just the occasional meal out in our lovely restaurant. In addition, via the Hanmer Arms' attractive bar, we have an important community role to play and are particularly delighted to host and offer food discounts to members of the nearby, very successful, Hanmer Bowling Club and their guests. The bar, though, is a place where everyone can meet and enjoy a fine range of bar snacks and drinks - including real ales!
Below is a brief summary of activity at the Hanmer Arms. Please visit the Main Menu for further detail.
